Jessica. She moved next door to me when we were 7. Dakota Ave. 1985. We met about halfway through our front lawns and exchanged names and checked each other out. She introduced herself as Jessie. I wore a purple cabbage patch kid sweater and she had spiked hair. I thought she was a boy. Not sure what clicked, those things you just can’t explain, but we were instantly the best of friends from that day forward.
27 years later and 2,700 miles apart, we are still best friends. And when we are together, those giggly little girls we were always shine through. We have been through EVERYTHING you could imagine friends go through at those ages and more. There are things that happen in life that instantly bond you to others. We have that in more ways than we wish at times. We often talk about co-writing a book on our lives that could only be published when we are old or gone. Too much pride to have it out in the world too soon :)
She is the family member I never had and the rock I always needed. I truly believe we were put together on the lawn that day on purpose. Someone knew we would need each other to get through this crazy life — and we certainly do.
One phone conversation and Jessica had the instinct I needed her and not just via phone or skype. I needed real time. Didn’t even have to ask. She flew across the country to come make sure of me.

a trip to Catalina.
trips down memory lane.
more giggles.
not enough rest.
serious talks.
memories to add to the book.
